Film vs. Film Challenge: Round 3, Match 3

Rear Window vs. Casablanca

Hitchcock’s beloved suspense film is a true classic of the genre featuring screen icons like Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly, enduringly popular, filled with drama and suspense, and impeccably directed. In Casablanca, Bogart's finest hour is delightful, dialogue-driven classic with a great ensemble cast that has stood the test of time like few others.

Like Psycho vs. Citizen Kane, this one will be quite difficult for me. Lots to recommend both. Both are favorites. I'm going to hold out for some solid arguments for both sides to be posted before I vote.

Casablanca is superior. I like RW but it isn't close.

This should be easy for Jeff.

Casablanca for me. The movie still holds up, and is worth repeat viewings, while Rear Window drags on and on and on and on and on before a thrilling and all-too-brief conclusion. And on.

I'm a Hitchcock guy, so Rear Window wins it for me. I like Casablanca, but I like Rear Window more.

Rear Window is my favorite movie, so this is an easy one.

Caca-blanca bad. Rear Window good.

I like the easy ones.

At the core of REAR WINDOW is a mystery. Once the mystery is revealed it's hard to put the genie back in the bottle.

CASABLANCA is more of a character drama. You can see a little of yourself in each of the people who enter "Rick's". Flattering and uncomplimentary aspects of being human are on display. When it comes down to it, we've each got to make tough decisions based on personal standards and ethics. Many of those decisions go against desires, but we choose them because we see a greater good beyond selfishness or legalities.

Everybody comes to Rick's at least once in their life.

Casablanca. It's a classic.

They're both classics, but I love the Bogey/Bergman chemistry more than the edge of the chair feeling that Rear Window creates.

Love them both but in the end Casablanca sticks with me more than Rear Window.

I could easily go in either direction with this one. Both rank as favorites of mine. However, seeing as Casablanca is walking away with it, I can avoid thinking too hard about this and run with some Hitchcock loyalty, knowing it will not change the outcome.
