Live action TV show exclusive to Netflix. Starring Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist! Looks more like Marvel Knights to me but I'm not complaining.

It's starting with solo miniseries for each character and then finishing as a Defenders series. AWESOME.

Are they superheroes or defense attorneys?

(The SHIELD series has me wary.)

With Daredevil in the lineup you do have to wonder....

For me "Defenders" will always be the David Anthony Kraft-written team, circa 1977. Unfortunately that seems to be one of their least popular eras.

Set Luke Cage right in the middle of the 70's and Disco, and watch him take on the super flies, The Man and any other jive turkey who gets in his way!!!

This sounds awesome. It's what they should have done in the first place instead of a show about people who aren't superheroes who live in a world full of them but never actually show them. Here is the actual Marvel announcement:

Quote:
Burbank, Calif. - Nov 7, 2013—The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) and Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) today announced an unprecedented deal for Marvel TV to bring multiple original series of live-action adventures of four of Marvel's most popular characters exclusively to the world's leading Internet TV Network beginning in 2015. This pioneering agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized programs leading to a mini-series programming event.
Led by a series focused on "Daredevil," followed by "Jessica Jones," "Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage," the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell's Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel's "The Defenders" mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.
Produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios, this groundbreaking deal is Marvel’s most ambitious foray yet into live-action TV storytelling.

One thing I've learned on various forums and social networking sites: you expect too much if you think people click links. :ohyes:

The news that Marvel has lined up a brilliant TV strategy for Netflix, where all the non-HBO excitement is, almost makes me think that they were savvy after all to offer network TV viewers something blandly generic in Agents of SHIELD.

Almost.

Waiting for Disney to start their own version of Netflix. Not sure why they'd put this on someone else's distribution platform.

Odd. I thought this was a thread about teh 1961 TV show, starring E.G. Marshall and Robert Reed.

But… I suspect that I will like this better.

I'm wondering now if the problem with SHIELD isn't the producers, but restrictions being mandated by ABC? Perhaps the network is insisting on a bland procedural to compete with all those CBS bland procedurals that are hugely successful.

The problem is Jeph Loeb.

He just hasn't produced any good work since Teen Wolf.

Hollywood, to show it's tolerance and color blindness,
is casting Robert Reed as pussy hound Matt Murdoch
and E.G. Marshall as Luke Cage.
The fact that they're both dead will be addressed by an
as-yet-unannounced Dr. Strange movie starring Vincent Price.

Disney must have a different viewpoint, because they signed a deal with Netflix earlier that gave Netflix first rights to all Disney movies. I think Disney is doing this the way consumers want it to be done, and they are doing the right thing.

The problem with SHIELD is it out and out sucks. I watched two episodes went with Dads & Brooklyn Nine Nine instead.

This sure sounds extremely awesome.

(Can we put Netflix on the title or something? I suppose this thread will be for all 5 series)
