I watch NCIS: Los Angeles and I could see Miguel Ferrer was having a rough time lately (he looked real sick, and they implied his character was real sick, and in the last episode I watched, he was stabbed and left for dead, but maybe clinging to life). Didn't know what was up for sure, health wise. I thought maybe he had a stroke since his words were badly spoken the last few episodes.

So I'm watching the last episode in the DVR and midway I thought I'd check on the actor's health. Turns out he died last month and I hadn't heard a thing. :ohno: I suppose when I go back and finish this episode, his character will have died. Sad.

Miguel José Ferrer (February 7, 1955 – January 19, 2017) was an American actor. His breakthrough role was the OCP Vice-president Bob Morton in the 1987 film RoboCop. He is the main character in Toto's music video for the song "I Will Remember" (1995). He also voiced the antagonistic Hun leader Shan Yu in Mulan (1998) and Big Boss in Rio 2. Ferrer's other notable roles include Dr. Garret Macy on Crossing Jordan, NCIS Assistant Director Owen Granger on NCIS: Los Angeles, Vice President Rodriguez in Iron Man 3, and FBI forensic pathologist Albert Rosenfield in Twin Peaks.

He died at age 61 of throat cancer.

I guess he played the helm officer of the U.S.S. Excelsior - about 4 minutes and beyond in this clip.

I will miss the guy and I'm saddened to learn of his passing and feel bad I hadn't heard of it.

R.I.P. Miguel. Thanks for the fun. May you rest in peace.

Hmmm. Memory Alpha says he wasn't the helm officer, but the first officer. Even cooler.

Although, they apparently have no clue who the actress was who did play the helm officer.

Never seen Twin Peaks, though I've heard it's good. I just looked into acquiring it and was surprised it was only 2 seasons. I was under the impression it was much longer. The complete collection is $60??? I could pick those seasons up separately for $14 and $16 or something like that, so just half. I wonder why. Still. And they're doing something in 2017?

Well, if I do pick it up, it wouldn't take too much time to binge watch it.

Don't got NF. Too much out there to afford it all, let alone watch even a significant amount of it to make it worthwhile. So it's still marginally better to buy limited number of select series when they're on sale.

Spoiler: show
I try to stay away from free trial offers unless I'm seriously thinking of adding a service on permanently. I know I'd be unhappy with 1 screen since it's only offered in SD, but for $10/month, 2 screens at HD is what I'd have to get. But I'm already drowning in too much content and don't have time to watch what I have now, let alone thousands upon thousands more options. I'd frickin' OD. And if you don't binge watch it, it might not be there later, or last long enough to watch it all.

Honestly, there is so much on Netflix (assuming it all stays there and I can access all of it), if they had news and Twins baseball and a few other things some people here NEED, we could probably get rid of some other stuff and just keep Netflix. But I gather things you're watching on NF can disappear before you're all the way through, and slow internet speeds don't help, and other problems.

Regardless, an extra $120 a year isn't in the budget right now, particularly for even more than I can already watch, and I know I would want to – there is just so damn much of it, it's overwhelming.

And it's what, 1 or 2 episodes behind the current stuff? Big deal, right? Well, it could be, but it's a minor thing.

Yet, you'd never have a copy yourself or own anything, and you can't always count on it being there later, as I understand it, or the net even being up around here.

For now, I'd still rather buy complete DVD series for items I deem worthy to have and own.

At least NF could be shown on my T.V.s, while CBS All Access, apparently, can't and has to go to a device (I'm not big on external portable devices).I could buy more hardware that might work for that, but how annoying.

So, yeah, lots of other services, many of which might have one or two things I'd want to watch, if I had the time, but no service has it all, and I shouldn't go down that bunny hole unless I'm prepared to step up for days more binge watching each month while also sacrificing other content all to justify the expense.
