All righty. I've just read Booster Gold #1, scripted by Johns and Katz, layouts by Jurgens, finishes by Rapmund.
And it's good. I'm excited about a monthly DC comic book again. First they got Green Lantern in good shape. Second, Brave and the Bold shows DC can do a fun, colorful, monthly superhero book.
And now, finally, they've come up with a way to derive some FUN stories out of all this 52 - time warp - Superboy Prime stuff.
In this first issue, Booster Gold seems just about to resume his grandstanding ways, when he's recruited by Rip Hunter to travel around through time fixing anomolous wormholes created by all the crazy 52 stuff.
The dialog is crisp. The first person narrative is quick paced and interesting. And there's some good stuff I won't spoil.
Read it. Hop on. Post here each month.

I like the concept very much; that a hero known primarily for his grandstanding and love of publicity is now saving the timeline every day, yet will never receive any credit for his actions. That, plus the fact that Dan Jurgens is doing the art, is enough to make me take a look at it.

Well put. The irony is delicious. It reminds me a bit of high school Peter Parker -- the nerd who wants so badly to pull that mask off and show up Flash Thompson, but duty demands the he not do that.
Plus it's witty. There's a joke about something being "teh awesome."
Plus there are inviting teasers about Ted Kord -- when you are fixing irregularities in the time stream, anything is possible.

I've always loved Booster Gold. I have every issue of the original series, which I bought as they were being published. My first exposure to Dan Jurgens, and despite what some have said, one of my favorite superhero costumes ever. I must admit to only following 52 haphazardly though, so I don't have all the background on Booster's current state of affairs. I am looking forward to this. Can't wait to pick it up.

Yes, but as he hasn't been to a nerd dungeon in a while, he hasn't much to say.

Good message.
Enjoyable comic. But then, I actually enjoy all this 52/Countdown/Sinestro Corps War stuff, so what do I know?

I'm enjoying it more now -- I never could follow it. Meaning I couldn't understand what was going on.
Now, with the Rip Hunter character to explain everything to the slower Booster Gold, they have a perfect story device to spell things out for readers like me. Add in Skeetch (?) as the source of all data (great plot device), and you can have some really compressed stories that are great.
I get a very good Dr. Quest/Race Bannon vibe out of Rip Hunter explaining things to Booster.

So picking this up tomorrow. Didn't get to make my Wednesday trip as I had to cover one of my people's shifts when they got sick.

I never liked Booster in the '80s. My boyfriend did, very much.
I gotta say, whatever else I thought about 52, it did help warm me a little bit to Booster. I'm sure that makes no sense to his oldschool fans.
Issue #1, I liked! Flat out liked it.
I hate dopplegangers in comics, so I hope we won't be bothered too long by Grampa Supernova. And I'm a little skeptical of Rip Hunter serving as Booster's Dean Stockwell.
Nevertheless, I'm onboard for now. "New Booster Gold reader."

Hmmm. Putting an image in a spoiler tag does not work in the way I expected.

I don't know if you'll change it so I'll use spoiler text to discuss:
That last panel seems to show Booster Gold and the new Blue Beetle interrupting Max Lord in the murder of Ted Kord.

I added some spoiler space, guys. (I know that's "old school," but it'll be okay just this once. Linda grants me a little leeway. )

Okay, that rocked. They almost lost me with the Leaguers ripping on Booster early in the book, but it wound up making sense in the end. This could be a lot of fun.
