I can't make that choice. It's really an apples to oranges comparrison, they're so different. I love 'em both.

You must make a choice -- or they both die.

I remember some comedian making fun of that saying -- "Why wouldn't I compare apples to oranges? Isn't the whole point of comparing two things is that they're different?"

Alien had more of an impact on me.
Aliens was a fun ride, but it was built around the awesomeness that was Alien.

Aliens was an action movie, Alien was more suspense. They're both good in their own right, it's not like you're comparing Escape from New York to Escape from L.A.(which are basically the same movie with a few different plot points).

Alien. It's a more pure, primal horror to be trapped on a ship with an omnipotent killing machine. And the planet was creepier and quieter. And the Ian Holmes robot was creepier the first time it was done, the big reveal. Classic haunted house tale.

The first is a haunted house movie, the second is a war movie. Both blew me away in different ways. I don't like one more than the other. So, if given the choice of "Choose one or they both die," I quote Captain Kirk from Star Trek VI: let them die.

Can't we get someone younger and tighter on the bridge? I'm a fucking decorated Fleet officer, for Christ's sake!" I don't know how that quote relates to the topic at hand, but it was certainly memorable.

Both great, but I felt that the threat of being stuck on a ship with one unstoppable Alien scarier than a whole planet full of Aliens that you can just blast away, so Alien wins.

Alien by one tingling raised hair!
The first chest-burster scene gave me the feeling "I'm trapped here on this ship with this thing with no regard for other life and I want what's happening before my eyes to stop!" From the first face hugger, you are not sure what hideous thing will occur next. And in space...no one can hear you scream. And there's really nowhere to run.
Would like to watch both of these again, though!

Alien. It's not even really close to me. Aliens is a fine movie, but Alien is much more groundbreaking and original.

Both movies try to do such totally different things that it's a little like saying 'Citizen Kane or Oliver!' Both are brilliant in their own ways. But I personally preferred the roller coaster that was Aliens. And Sigourney's tits were only a medium-sized factor in my choice...
