Comparing these Steven Spielberg directed movies to those he directed last century, the question must be asked---is he a better director,a worse director,or just a different director now?

Just different. He has a lot of strengths that were developed. Munich is criminally underrated. The skills he employs in that movie around tension, sound design, and "The Spielberg One-er" are just so deftly executed that I'm taken aback by how little that movie is appreciated.

But then there's things like The BFG and Tintin that are just....it's not that they're bad, just a bit tone-deaf. When he allows his whimsical muse to take over, it's like he still wants to be the guy that made ET, but he's lost that muscle somewhere along the line.

His dramas now are substantially better ever since Schindler's List, but his popcorn movies have really dropped in quality.

He's a different director. All of his best popcorn movies are ones he produces and lets others direct.

The majority of this list are dramas, and that's probably the direction age will take you in a career of directing films.

But 70s/80s Spielberg films will kick this list to the curb and leave them out in the cold.

I selected what I found to be the most entertaining film on this list, and the only one on this list I've watched more than once - Catch Me If You Can.

A.I. is a masterpiece.

There, I said it.

Minority Report gave us a glimpse of the future which may be now with ads tailored for you on platforms (like Facebook) that is downright eerie. And now we find out Facebook and friends are keeping a tally of everything that is you.

I haven't seen every movie on that list, but I really liked Minority Report. A.I. is really good, but I still prefer Minority Report. I even liked War of the Worlds a whole lot and thought it was underrated.

Minority Report for me.

I completely forgot that War Horse was a movie that was made, let alone that Spielberg directed it.

But I voted for Minority Report.

It got dismissed pretty quickly, but I think it's underrated. Especially if you're into cinematography, and enjoy watching modern directors work hard to emulate 1940s style early color movie photography.

(Even though I think Janusz Kaminski has done more harm to Spielberg's 21st output than good.)
