The whole thing is ruined for me by the use of "Master Wayne" instead of "Master Bruce".

PASS.

I heard it was the other way around.

I would so watch a Batman-Shadow movie.

There are several shadows in any of the Batman movies. You can watch any shadow you'd like.

Wilson actually wasn't bad. Sure, his problem is that he was, well, 'unfit', but he was actually pretty good as Bruce Wayne.

Lowery was terrible, though.

I find this whole line of logic concerning Adam West annoying...

"Either you love him for his goofy charm or hate him for blemishing the Bat’s image for several decades. His campy, over-the-top portrayal of Gotham’s Guardian infiltrated nearly ever medium, including a 1966 movie and several animated series."

Look, the Batman comic of the time were even goofier than Adam West's show. Blame DC's editorial staff at the time. West's show was faithful to the spirit of the goofy Bat comics of the time.

Also, people talk about how puny Michael Keaton is to be Batman, but I don't recall West, Kilmer, or Clooney having muscular builds -- they were just handsome.

Bale is probably the first Batman built like an athlete.

He was way punier than any of them.

You have a point about the West series. But it's something I've long decided to just let it go by. For some, they can't be convinced that the series is anything but a stain on the character, that somehow robbed him of his 'dark' and 'realistic' tone for decades.

Whatever. The show saved Batman. Without it, there probably wouldn't be a Miller or Nolan 'dark' Batman.

Maybe he was shorter, but punier? They were all just skinny dudes until Bale.

As a side note, I watched Batman 1989 with some friends last week and in my personal experience, I don't know if there's a bigger difference in how the fan community and the "civilian" community perceive the movie. Fans really dump on the movie these days but whenever I speak with a non-comic reader, they always seem to say how good it was. People usually say Keaton was one of the best Batmen ever and that Nicholson was great as the Joker.

Whenever I hear people down it, they either just don't care for action movies like that or they're comic fans.

Yes, punier and shorter than all of them. Keaton was a shrimp.

And I'm not sure how big that difference is. Yes, I do shit on it every chance I have. I think it's crap. But many comic fans still like it and have Keaton and Nicholson in esteem. Some fans even think its better than any Nolan one. I guess I just haven't seen that big difference in opinion at all.

One thing that was mentioned a lot was that Keaton had a "weak chin." He did not have a heroic, leading man face and jawline.

Curiously, that's not a criticism I have. He does look very Batmanish with the movie's cowl.

Bale looks a bit weird with his really pointy chin.

Having just seen it last week, I really am mystified by this reaction -- okay, Keaton doesn't look like a male model and the Joker killing the Waynes was idiotic -- but the rest of the movie really seems pretty dead-on. I don't get what makes this "not Batman".

And I'm mystified by you being mystified.

Batman is no different than Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Choclate Factory or Sleepy Holllow. It's Tim Burton doing what he does. Generally, I have no problem, sometimes I even enjoy it, but not in this case. I don't see any need to rehash this over again. You like the movie, I think it's garbage.

The problem is, just like with Tobey Maguire, people go to see the hero not the actor so it costs nothing to cast someone who looks somewhat like the character.

It had it's moments, the warehouse fight, going through the skylight, Alfred and Bruce's relationship and of course the lovely Basinger.

Never been a Burton fan. All weirdness and crazy visualness and emptiness.

It's never that simple. I can criticize Keaton all I want, but the truth is that he was specifically chosen by the director and producers because he fit the image they had of the character.
